John is a shareholder with Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association, and is based in our Minneapolis office. He is a member of the firm's Financial Institutions and Real Estate Section, and our Bankruptcy Practice Group. He practices principally in the areas of:
John’s bankruptcy, workout and creditors’ rights experience is extensive. He has represented virtually all types of interested parties in large Chapter 11 bankruptcies and workouts, including secured and unsecured creditors, real estate and equipment lessors, insurers, creditors and equity committees, trustees, business debtors, boards of directors, post-confirmation entities, and other interested parties. John has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex litigation involving a range of commercial matters. Among his representative work, he has:
John is admitted to practice in Minnesota and has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the 5th and 11th Circuits, as well as pro hac vice in hundreds of cases across the country.
John is a member of the Hennepin County, Ramsey County, Minnesota and American Bar associations. He is a founding board member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Upper Midwest Chapter. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Bankruptcy Section. John has been named a “Leading American Attorney” by American Research Corporation and listed in Minnesota Super Lawyers, as seen in Minnesota Law & Politics.
In the community, John is a member of the Community Development Committee of the Highland District Council. He also recently chaired a $6 million capital campaign for his local parish and has served as a Crisis Nursery foster parent for Children’s Home Society of Minnesota.
John received a B.A. cum laude in English from the College of St. Thomas, an M.A. cum laude in English from the University of New Hampshire, and a J.D. with honors from Hamline University School of Law. John is published in Hamline Law Review and the National Law Journal, and is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and commercial topics. He joined Briggs in 2006.
