Richard "Richie" Zimmerman, III, obtained his law degree from Louisiana State University in 2007. He is licensed to practice in all Louisiana State and Federal Courts as well as the U. S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Richie's desire to become a trial lawyer and be in the courtroom developed during law school while working as a law clerk for Lewis Unglesby. Upon graduating, Richie joined McKernan Law Firm and hit the ground running. Since 2008, Richie has recovered more than $20 Million dollars for his clients. He has successfully litigated more than twenty-five (25) cases where he obtained a verdict or settlement for his client of one hundred thousand dollars or more. In the past three years, Richie has been successful in fifteen (15) cases in obtaining a recovery for his client that was more than a quarter of a million dollars. Recently, Richie resolved a back injury case, which included a substantial UM bad faith claim for $2,500,000.00, as well as an 18-Wheeler crash for $832,000.00. Richie's cases have been featured in legal publications numerous times, documenting the results he has obtained for his clients. Most notably, in 2010 Richie successfully litigated a horrific 18-wheeler crash and recovered $5,000,000.00 for his client.
Richie has been inducted into the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Less than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members. In 2012, The National Trial Lawyers Association selected Richie to be named as one of the Top 40 Under 40 trial lawyers.
Since joining the firm, Richie's law practice has been focused on ensuring that anyone who has been injured gets the maximum recovery, whether that comes through trial or settlement. Richie has represented individuals and their loved ones in wrongful death suits, car wrecks, 18 wheeler crashes, drunken driving accidents, industrial accidents, motorcycle crashes, and many more. Richie has helped clients suffering with serious neck and back injuries, herniated and bulging discs, spinal injuries, brain damage, broken bones, scarring, and many others. He has represented clients throughout the state of Louisiana including areas such as Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Alexandria, New Orleans, Morgan City, Abbeville, Gonzales, Prairieville, Metairie, and Houma.
Richie is married to Leigh Buchanan Zimmerman and they have three children. They are active members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. When not practicing law, Richie also enjoys boating, fishing, hunting (manages Cypress Point Hunting Lodge in Clayton, Louisiana), and of course LSU Football!
