I am Dan W. McCrary, a native Houstonian and graduate of Lamar High School. I am a direct descendent of a long line of attorneys, including my father who was admitted to the State Bar of Texas the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I also had a great uncle who served for twenty-five (25) years as General Counsel for the Gulf Companies in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and another great uncle who was Justice John Sharp of the Supreme Court of the State of Texas. Furthermore, my father, having been in the banking business prior to World War II, was a co-founder of the mortgage lending department of Houstons largest home office life insurance company. Therefore, my legal training in the banking and financial industries began at an early age. With my excitement and interest developed in these areas, there was no doubt after graduation from college that I would begin the study of law.
By the time I was seventeen years of age, I had obtained a private pilots license and by graduation from college, I had earned a commercial pilots license and an instrument rating, having flown charter aircraft for well over 1000 hours. I began the formal study of law in 1971 at South Texas College of Law where I diligently pursued my favorite courses, especially real estate law. I felt honored to be able to advise my dad on certain real property matters prior to his death in 1983. I graduated with the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence in January of 1974, passed the January 1974 bar exam thereby becoming licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of the State of Texas in April of that year. After a number of years representing one of Houstons largest commercial developers building discount department stores, shopping centers and malls throughout almost every state in the country, I became Board Certified in Commercial Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1983. This was the first occasion that the specialization examination was given in the area of real estate.
In the mid 1980s I met Jeffrey William Clark, at that time a law student, who shared my enthusiasm in real estate. Our similar interests resulted in the formation of the partnership of McCrary & Clark, L.L.P. in 1996.
My partner and I are avid motorcyclists. I enjoy riding my Harley Davidson Shovelhead Sportster whenever work allows. I also love ocean racing style power boats and enjoy my Scarab with my family over many summer weekends.
For all most twenty-five (25) years I have used my best efforts to assist my clients, including bank and non-bank lending institutions, small to medium size business owners, and title companies with prompt and accurate attention to their needs through competent advice and documentation. My vast experience in commercial transactions and lender representation has made McCrary & Clark, L.L.P. one of Houstons premier law firms practicing in these areas.
