Eric was born and raised in Crescent City, California. After graduating from Del Norte Highschool, Eric enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for four years as an infantry assaultman. Eric received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment, and attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). After the Marines, Eric attended California Polytechnic State University, where he earned a BA in English. Eric then went on to law school at Willamette University College of Law, where he earned a JD. During law school, Eric clerked for the Public Defender of Marion County helping indigent clients accused of crimes. He also clerked for Lance Youd, a private attorney practicing in the areas of family law and personal injury. Eric joined his current firm in 2010 and focuses primarily on family law and related practice areas.
