I am a fourth-generation native Coloradan. My great-grandmother was born northeast of Denver at "First Creek", a place that is now within the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, recently designated a wildlife preserve.
My introduction to law was in 1973 through the Boulder County District Attorney's office, where I became an investigator, and worked there until shortly before graduation from law school.
The predominant area of my practice is in criminal defense. I also practice civil matters as well. Most of the civil matters I have handled are commercial in nature, encompassing construction law, real estate, easement and boundary disputes, and disputes over business transactions, at both the trial and appellate levels.
