John assists clients in the areas of municipal defense, general commercial/business law, and general civil litigation. He has represented clients in federal, state, and appellate courts throughout Indiana.
Municipal Law
Lawsuits brought against governmental entities, including police and sheriff’s departments, present unique and complex legal issues. These questions often require a mixture of federal, state, and United States Constitutional law.
John has experience defending governmental entities in cases involving civil rights claims made pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983, law enforcement liability, road design liability, premises liability, tort claims, contractual disputes, and employment actions.
Commercial/Business Law
Forming a business and operating a business invariably involves risk. Actively managing and mitigating risk is essential to protect your hard work and investment. Effective risk management includes not only understanding the law, but also using the law to protect your business and its assets. John has experience advising commercial entities and businesses with regard to entity formation, strategic planning, contract and warranty law, and protection of intellectual property rights.
Litigation, despite effective risk management, is a costly reality that confronts businesses all too often. In the event a dispute turns into a legal conflict, the business will need to seek out the trust and confidence of an attorney to help it manage the lawsuit. John has helped his clients resolve disputes through alternative dispute resolution and by advocating for them in the courtroom.
