Steven J. Matz is a shareholder in the Law Offices of Matz and Pietsch PC. Mr. Matz’s concentration is in general personal injury law with an emphasis on traumatic brain injury.
The purpose of liability law - - to fairly compensate an individual for the loss in the area of personal injury - - is constantly under attack by those who have a financial interest in avoiding responsibility for their negligence. An attorney must be constantly vigilant so that his client may be fully protected. It is Matz and Pietsch’s philosophy to aggressively represent injured victims and pursue all avenues of legal redress whenever and wherever possible.
The resolution of a personal injury claim is an art as well as a science. Talking about how many dollars a particular individual receives for a case has to be placed in an appropriate context. The single most important talent Matz and Pietsch possesses is the ability to get the most money possible for each individual client.
A 1974 graduate of the University of Michigan, Mr. Matz received a Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction and highest honors. He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1977 from George Washington University National Law Center.
At Matz and Pietsch, everything about what we do - - and how and why we do it - - is explained to our clients in non-technical terms.
Mr. Matz is a member of the Bar of the States of Michigan, Colorado, Texas and Washington, D.C. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, Oakland County Mediation Tribunal and the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board as a Hearing Panel Chairman and has been appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court as a Master.
Mr. Matz lectures and publishes in a number of areas including ethics, marketing, client counseling, trial tactics, head injury and legal research and writing. His other professional affiliations include membership in Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union.
Mr. Matz has been lead counsel in a number of civil litigation claims focusing on personal injury: from motor vehicle accidents and premises liability to complex medical malpractice and product liability litigation. Special areas of interest include traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.
Steven J. Matz has been rated AV Preeminent (highest rating possible) by the legal publication Martindale-Hubbell. He has also been named by Michigan Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the top attorneys in Michigan. Only five percent of the attorneys in the state are named by Super Lawyers. He has also been name by The National Trial Lawyers Association as one of the top 100 Trial Lawyers in the State of Michigan.
