Mr. Matthews engages in litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts in Missouri, Illinois, and other jurisdictions including New York and New Jersey. His areas of practice include commercial and business litigation and contract disputes; class action defense litigation; insurance litigation representing insureds with respect to claims for benefits under policies of insurance; breach of fiduciary duty claims; negligence; fraud; personal injury; property damage; and bank-related claims including enforcing loans, personal guarantees, and the defense of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) and Regulation B.
Mr. Matthews represents companies ranging from small privately held entities to large publicly traded companies. These companies include financial and banking institutions; designer, manufacturer, retailer and direct marketer corporations; service corporations; construction companies; national distributors; and not for profit companies. Mr. Matthews also represents the employees, individual board members, executives, and owners of such companies.
Prior to practicing law Mr. Matthews was a NASDAQ Securities Trader for JWGenesis Financial Services, Inc. where he held a NASD Series 7, General Securities Representative License, NASD Series 55, Equity Trader Representative License, and a NASD Series 63, Uniform Securities Agent License. Mr. Matthews has also worked on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for Archer Daniel Midland (ADM).
While obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa College of Law Mr. Matthews was a delegate of the Student Bar Association (SBA) and Dean of Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity. While obtaining his B.S. in Finance from Arizona State University Mr. Matthews was a scholar athlete and member of Arizona State University Men’s Golf Team that won the 1996 NCAA National Championship, the 1995 and 1998 NCAA West Regional Championships, and the 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998 Pac-10 Championships.
