After receiving a Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1964, Ed Matonich accepted a position with Standard Oil of Indiana. He returned to his hometown of Hibbing in 1968 to fulfill his dream of practicing law in northern Minnesota.
Ed has dedicated his career solely to plaintiffs' civil litigation involving personal injury, medical malpractice, automobile accidents, liquor liability, and product liability. Ed has won verdicts in excess of one million dollars in each of the aforementioned categories, including a record breaking $13.5 million personal injury verdict against an industrial giant.
Recognized nationwide for his litigation skills, Ed has been honored every year since 1991 as one of the Best Lawyers in America. He is a fellow, by invitation, of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the International Society of Barristers (President 2005-2006).
By Minnesota Supreme Court appointment, Ed served on the Minnesota Board on Judicial Standards, the State of Minnesota Judicial Selection Committee, and the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Rules of Evidence Advisory Committee.
Ed has been nominated by his peers every year since 1994 as a Minnesota “Super Lawyer” and has been ranked as one of “Minnesota’s Top 40 Personal Injury Super Lawyers.” He was honored in 2004 by Minnesota Lawyers magazine as one of “Minnesota’s Attorneys of the Year.
