Mr. Marques is an Associate in the Immigration Group. In his Immigration Practice, he assists clients in the acquisition of employment based immigrant visas such as Employment First Preference (EB-1: Priority Workers); Employment Second Preference (EB-2: Professionals Holding Advanced Degrees and Persons of Exceptional Ability); Employment Third Preference (EB-3: Skilled Workers, Professionals, and Unskilled Workers); Employment Fourth Preference (EB-4: Certain Special Immigrants); and Employment Fifth Preference (EB-5: Immigrant Investors). Mr. Marques also assists clients in the acquisition of employment based non-immigrant visas such as E-1 Treaty Traders; E-2 Treaty Investors; TN NAFTA Professional Workers; H-1B Specialty Occupation; L-1A Intracompany Transferee Executives or Managers; O-1 Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement; P-1A Internationally Recognized Athletes; and R-1 Temporary Religious Workers. Additionally, Mr. Marques assists employers in Form I-9 Corporate Compliance and defends employers against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Form I-9 Audit Inspections. Moreover, Mr. Marques assists clients in the acquisition of family based visas to enter the United States and in the resolution of general immigration issues such as Deportation and Removal Defense; Adjustment of Status; Naturalization; Asylum; Consular Processing; Waivers of Inadmissibility; Post Conviction Relief; and Education Law.
Prior to joining Lewis & Kappes in 2010, Mr. Marques served as a Legislative Intern for the Indiana House of Representatives. He then served the Indiana Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs as an Economic Development Analyst where he was tasked with researching and composing qualitative and quantitative monthly reports on economic development, international labor migration, and minority business enterprise development for Indiana’s Hispanic business community published for review and consideration by the Indiana General Assembly. In 2008, he assumed the role as Business Advocacy Manager of the Hispanic Business Council for the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce where he was responsible for the creation and implementation of the Chamber’s nationally recognized Mentor-Protégé Program which involved participation by Fortune 500 and 100 companies. In 2007, Mr. Marques was appointed as an Economic Advisor to the Indianapolis Mayor’s Commission on Latino Affairs under former Mayor Bart Peterson where he was tasked with composing reports and providing presentations to the Mayor’s Commission on issues concerning economic development within the Indianapolis Hispanic business community. In 2008, he served as the Vice-Chair for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals – Division III.
Mr. Marques graduated from Butler University with a degree of Bachelor of Science majoring in both Finance and Spanish. He was a four year NCAA Division I Varsity letter winner for the Butler University Men's Soccer Team. He also earned an Honors Diploma in History - Nivel Superior - from La Universidad de Salamanca. In 2010, Mr. Marques graduated from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and served the roles as President of the Hispanic Law Society and student advisor to the Law School’s Diversity Committee. He now serves as a member of the Board of Alumni for the Law School. Mr. Marques is a Licensed Insurance Producer and a Certified and Registered Mediator in the State of Indiana.
