Lou Marlin has been a litigator since his admission to the bar in 1972. He is dedicated to seeing that our judicial system is used to protect the rights of individuals in California, and throughout the country. He has substantial trial experience and is considered as one of the leading class action attorneys in California, having been selected by Los Angeles Magazine as a “Super Lawyer” for many years. He has also been selected by a national ranking organization as a member of the “Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys.”
Lou’s practice focuses on class action litigation, often involving the handling of matters of extreme importance and complexity. He was one of the lead attorneys in numerous class actions, including matters against State Farm Insurance ($135 million), Allstate Insurance ($120 million), Wal-Mart ($86 million), and numerous other high profile and highly successful class actions. Time and again, he has been named as counsel for the plaintiffs in class actions from San Diego to San Francisco, and numerous courts in between. In addition, he has represented the University of California in various complex matters in California.
His experience includes class actions involving mis-classification of employees, failure to make timely wage and commission payments to employees, as well as numerous other claims brought to protect the rights of individuals in California and throughout the country. He is currently engaged in matters addressing allegations of mis-classifying employees as independent contractors, failures by employers to provide required meal and rest breaks to employees, failure by a nationwide tax preparation service to make timely wage and commission payments to tax preparers, and several similar matters. In addition to his substantial trial court experience, he has argued before the Supreme Court of California, various California Courts of Appeal, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Lou graduated from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1972. He is a co-founder of Marlin & Saltzman, along with Stan Saltzman. He is admitted to practice in numerous State and Federal Courts.
