David Wise has resolved more than 200 cases in many areas of personal injury law, nearly one-quarter of them involving verdicts or settlements for more than $1 million each. He represents plaintiff clients in all areas of personal injury law including:
He has secured over $200,000,000 for his clients through verdicts and settlements.
A founding member of Burke Wise Morrissey Kaveny, David is an aggressive, sophisticated litigator with unsurpassed knowledge of Illinois state and federal courts and their judges. He is a straightforward trial veteran who is skilled and tenacious in the courtroom, yet flexible in structuring an effective settlement when that is in his client's best interest.
Many of David's cases have been high-profile matters with significant issues at stake. For example, he secured $24 million in verdicts and settlements for the families of four people killed and one injured on an American Eagle passenger airplane crash. He obtained a $5.2 million settlement for the family of a 58 year old man killed in a crane accident, a record amount in a wrongful death case for an individual of this age. He obtained a $5 million settlement for the family of a man injured when he fell off a roof on a construction site; he obtained a $5 million dollar settlement for a man who suffered paralyzing neck injuries when he fell out of a piece of exercise equipment. He obtained a $5.5 million settlement for a man who lost part of his leg when hit by a truck. He has many other similar verdicts and settlements.
In 2001, after fewer than 10 years in practice David was recognized by his legal peers as one of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin's "40 Under 40" Illinois attorneys to watch for his accomplishments as a litigator. Since then his peer recognitions have included selection as an Illinois SuperLawyer every year since 2005, and a member of the Illinois Leading Lawyers Network (accorded to only 5 percent of the state's lawyers in any given practice area) every year since that honor was instituted. David is known as a professional leader in many other ways, including through his many presentations on litigation-related topics for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Illinois State Bar Association. He is also AV rated by peer review through Martindale Hubbell. AV is the highest rating possible and is given to less than 5% of practicing lawyers.
