Practice

Brian Markovitz is a partner in our Litigation Group with a focus on civil litigation, employment, labor, and False Claims Act (qui tam) cases throughout the country. Mr. Markovitz's practice includes oral arguments before the Maryland Court of Appeals and Maryland Court of Special Appeals, in the United States Fourth Circuit, in the District of Columbia and several other states, and administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, Merit Systems Protection Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Division of Appeals at the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the Board of Trustees of the Maryland Retirement and Pension Agency.  He has arbitrated labor cases and has been before the District of Columbia Public Employees Relations Board.  Mr. Markovitz has also testified before the Maryland House Economic Matters and the Senate Finance Committees on employment legislation.

Education

Mr. Markovitz is a 1993 graduate of Dickinson College with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. He is a 2000 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.

In June 2000, Mr. Markovitz published Public School Teachers as Plaintiffs in Defamation Suits: Do They Deserve Actual Malice? in the Georgetown Law Review. He also received the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Award for Excellence for the highest grades in labor and employment law for the 2000 graduating class at Georgetown University Law Center.
