While in high school and college, Garo Mardirossian worked as a mechanic in his father's service station on Fairfax Boulevard, where he became a skilled automobile mechanic and a certified State of California smog inspector. Garo rode his motorcycle daily to school and work; he remains an avid automobile and motorcycle enthusiast to the present day.
After graduating from U.C.L.A. with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Mr. Mardirossian attended Whittier College School of Law where he excelled in his legal studies. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Whittier and after association with a personal injury law firm for a year, he founded the Law Offices of Garo Mardirossian. He started out by handling a variety of cases, and gradually through the years took on the more challenging and complex matters.
Mr. Mardirossian cemented his reputation as prominent plaintiff's attorney by obtaining many landmark jury verdicts on behalf of his injured clients. In Dole v. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a police brutality case, Mr. Mardirossian obtained for his clients a jury verdict and judgment in the amount of $24,850,000 - the largest judgment in history against the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department.
In Pannu v. Land Rover, on behalf of his client injured in a vehicle roll over, Mr. Mardirossian obtained a judgment in the sum of $25,300,000. In McCardle v. Greyhound Motor Lines, Inc., a bus accident case, Mr. Mardirossian obtained for his injured client a jury verdict in the amount of $15,967,000. In Saakyan v. Modern Auto, a faulty tire case, Mr. Mardirossian obtained a jury verdict and judgment in the sum of $26,900,000. In Gozukara v. Ford Motor Company, et al., a product liability case, Mr. Mardirossian obtained a jury verdict in the amount of $14,900,000. This historic case was the first jury verdict in American history finding the Ford Explorer to be defective in rollover propensity.
In a wide variety of personal injury cases, Mr. Mardirossian has gone up against some of the most skilled defense attorneys and has won outstanding jury verdicts and settlements for his injured clients - i.e., fire and injuries caused by defective stove ($6,650,000 jury verdict), faulty seat belt case ($3,150,000 jury verdict), defective vehicle case ($14,900,000 jury verdict), leg amputation ($4,600,000 settlement), exploding water heater case ($2,200,000 jury verdict), burn injury case ($5,800,000 jury verdict including punitives).
Mr. Mardirossian's extensive trial experience and winning record of more than two dozen multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements has made him a sought-after trial lawyer. His reputation precedes him and allows him great leverage when negotiating settlements. Mr. Mardirossian is a frequent lecturer at legal seminars on topics from premises liability to defective products.
In January, 2010, Garo Mardirossian was installed as President of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), which has nearly 3,000 members and is the largest local bar association in the United States. Mr. Mardirossian has served on CAALA's Board of Directors for more than 20 years. In 2000, Mr. Mardirossian received the honor of being named CAALA's Trial Lawyer of the Year.
