Steve is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is based in our Minneapolis office and is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section. Steve practices principally in the areas of:

• Employment litigation
• ERISA litigation
• Non-compete litigation
• Employment law counseling

Steve has been engaged in litigation practice for more than 20 years. For the past 15 years, he has focused on representing corporations in all manners of employment and employee benefits litigation. Steve routinely appears in litigated matters in state and federal court, and in administrative proceedings before the EEOC and Minnesota Department of Human Rights.

Steve also advises business clients in relation to pending transactions and ongoing operations on workplace issues, including drug and alcohol testing, work scheduling and pay, time off and leave of absence, disability accommodation, hiring decisions, terminations, and reductions in force.

Steve serves on the advisory board of the William Mitchell College of Law National Security Forum and the board of directors of The Storefront Group, a social services agency for children and families. He has received a "preeminent" rating by the leading directory of the legal profession, which reflects his expertise, nature of practice and other professional qualifications, as well as adherence to professional standards of conduct and ethics, reliability and diligence, among others.

Steve is a member of the Litigation and Labor and Employment Sections of the American Bar Association, and a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before all Minnesota state and federal courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd and 8th Circuits.

Born in Mankato, Minnesota, Steve received his B.S. in economics from St. John's University and his law degree cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. He first joined Briggs in 1986. Steve then served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and with the Department of Justice as a special assistant U.S. attorney, before returning to Briggs in 1991.
