Jeffrey Williamson is the founding partner of J. L. Williamson Law Group, LLC. The firm, headquartered in Statesboro, Georgia, specializes in estate planning, elder law, and taxation.
Jeffrey is knowledgeable in many areas of federal and state taxation, but he has particular expertise with regard to estate and gift taxation, income taxation of partnerships, and taxation issues unique to tax-exempt entities. He has significant experience with regard to federal tax controversies, and he is well versed in the audit policies and procedures of the Internal Revenue Service.
Jeffrey's estate planning practice focuses mainly on helping clients protect their assets from creditor claims and minimizing federal estate tax liability. The elder law portion of Jeffrey's practice is a subspecialty of his estate planning practice. Through his knowledge of the state and federal Medicaid rules and his skill at drafting trusts and other types of sophisticated agreements, Jeffery is able to help clients qualify for Medicaid benefits while also preserving their children's inheritance.
A frequent lecturer, Jeffrey has presented many seminars on estate planning, elder law, and taxation to various civic groups and investment professionals.
Jeffrey received his Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Mercer University in 2000. He continued his professional education at the University of Georgia receiving both his Juris Doctor and Master of Accountancy in 2003 and 2005, respectively.
After completing his education, Jeffrey began his career with the Small Business/Self-Employed Division of the Internal Revenue Service. He also served as staff counsel to two mid-sized accounting firms where his primary duties included in-depth tax research and tax controversy representation.
Jeffrey is a member of the Taxation, Business, and Real Property, Trust and Estate Law sections of the American Bar Association as well as the Taxation and Fiduciary Law sections of the State Bar of Georgia. He is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Currently, he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Pembroke Hospital Authority Board of Directors. In addition to his work with the hospital authority, Jeffrey serves the North Bryan and Bulloch County communities in a variety of charitable capacities.
