Rick is Of Counsel in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is a former shareholder based in our St. Paul office and is a member of the Estate Planning and Administration Section. Rick practices principally in the areas of:
While developing extensive experience in trusts, wills and estate administration, Rick complements his practice with representation of owners of small businesses and trusts holding modest to substantial business and investment interests. He has represented beneficiaries and trustees in major will and trust contest proceedings, as well as other contested matters related to testamentary transfers of property.
Rick is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is also a member of the Ramsey County, Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American Bar associations and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Rick has also been designated a "Leading American Attorney." He has been a regular lecturer on trust, estate and tax related topics. He is also a member of the board of the Ramsey County Historical Society.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rick received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. Between graduation from Creighton and enrolling in law school, he served in the U.S. Army and worked in the tax division of the Wells Fargo Bank (formerly known as Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis, Minnesota, N.A.) Trust Department. After practicing 32 years with Doherty, Rumble & Butler in St. Paul, Rick joined Briggs in 1999.
