Richard Whitlow practices in all areas of intellectual property law, with a particular focus on patent and trade secret litigation, as well as patent prosecution and opinion work. Richard has experience in patent litigation matters related to pharmaceuticals and chemical compounds (Hatch-Waxman/ANDA infringement context), as well as medical devices, cell phone technology, software, and electronic devices. He also has experience in cases involving allegations of theft by employees of trade secret and confidential information and in patent prosecution and client counseling, including rendering patent validity and infringement opinions. Additionally, Richard has broad-based general business litigation experience, including matters involving breach of contract, unfair competition, and other complex business litigation claims.
Prior to joining the Firm, Richard worked in the research lab of Dr. Sepehr Eskandari at Cal Poly Pomona, where he studied cellular membrane proteins involved in selective neurotransmitter transport. His particular area of focus was the function and pharmacology of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) cell membrane transporters, which he studied using advanced biophysics and molecular biology experimental techniques.
Prior to attending law school, Richard taught physical science (chemistry and physics) at Claremont High School in southern California, where he was actively involved in integrating laboratory technology with science curricula.
Richard is a member of the Orange County Patent Law Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and the Warren J. Ferguson American Inn of Court.
