Niroshan M. Wijesooriya (Niro) is an associate attorney with Minnillo & Jenkins Co., LPA. Niro received his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, in 2005, and his B.A. from the George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. While at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, Niro was the Book Review Editor for the Human Rights Quarterly, and was on the Dean’s List.
Niro was a Prosecutor with the City of Cincinnati for almost five years, gaining extensive trial experience in over two hundred trials, including numerous OVI/DUI (Operating a Vehicle while Impaired) cases, and several jury trials. Niro also wrote decisions for the City’s Office of Administrative Hearings, and argued before the First District Court of Appeals on multiple criminal appeals.
Since joining Minnillo & Jenkins in late 2009, Niro has successfully defended clients against criminal, traffic, and OVI charges and has negotiated pleas in Hamilton County and the surrounding counties, including Butler, Clermont, Warren, and Brown counties.
In addition, Niro now devotes a significant portion of his practice to civil litigation. One of Niro’s principal areas of civil practice is consumer debt protection and particularly the pursuit of FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) and OCSPA (Ohio Consumer Sales Protection Act) claims against debt collectors who use illegal means to attempt to collect debts. Another area of Niro’s civil practice is his representation of several Ohio unions in collective bargaining, disciplinary hearings, and mediation and arbitration.
Between obtaining his undergraduate degree and entering law school, Niro worked in book publishing for Time Warner Trade Publishing and Disney/Hyperion Books, in New York City. In addition to having lived in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Houston, and New York, Niro has lived in Asia, Africa, Europe, and New Zealand, and is an avid traveler. He is married and is the proud father of a son and a daughter.
