Mr. Welch joined Crawford, Sullivan, Read & Roemerman, P.C. in 2004, having previously been in the private practice of law in Cedar Rapids since 1992. Prior to that, Mr. Welch was a Senior Vice President and Regional Trust Manager with Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo). His practice is in the estate planning and probate area, family and dissolution work, business organization matters and also military law.
Mr. Welch was born in 1950 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Having moved to California in high school, he graduated from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, California before enrolling in college at San Diego State University. He graduated in 1972 with a BS Degree in Finance (cum laude). He was enrolled in the ROC program and was commissioned as an Ensign on November 2, 1972. He attended the Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. He was assigned to a fast attack submarine out of New London, Connecticut for his first tour, and then was assigned as the Squadron Supply Officer for Commander Submarine Group Seven located in Yokosuka, Japan. He finished his Executive MBA program from Pepperdine University, and after over six years of active duty, returned to law school at the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1981, and becoming a member of the California and Iowa Bar. Mr. Welch continued his service to the country as a drilling reservist in many logistics positions within DLA and NATO, and retired as a Captain in the Navy at the end of 2002.
Mr. Welch was selected and serves on the board of directors of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
