Professional Experience
I have been involved in the private practice of law since 1999. In the area of employment law, I have served since 1999 as senior editor of a nationally recognized employment law news bulletin (LawMemo). My analysis of employment law cases is distributed on a weekly basis to over 1000 paid subscribers (law firms and law schools) throughout the United States. In that capacity, I have read, analyzed, and summarized the vast majority of all employment law cases decided in the United States (at both the state and federal levels) since 1999. I have represented both employers and employees in a wide array of employment law cases, in both state and federal matters.
In the area of criminal law, I have handled thousands of criminal cases throughout the state of Oregon, at both the misdemeanor and felony levels. I have extensive experience handling all types of criminal cases, including misdemeanors, minor felonies, major felonies, and murders. I am currently representing clients in two pending murder cases, as well as several aggravated murder post-conviction cases.
In addition to my work as a trial attorney, I have served for the past five years as a part-time municipal court pro tem judge. For the past three years, I have also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marion County Association of Defenders, a non-profit organization involved in the provision of criminal defense services to the State of Oregon.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis, and traveling.
Please note: Jon has associated with Harris Law Firm as Of Counsel. He maintains his own practice in Salem while representing Firm clients in the area of employment law only.
