The firm's founder, Jay Livingstone, has extensive experience in private law firms and government practice since 1998 where he has focused on trials and litigation work. He opened his own firm in the summer of 2012.

Middlesex District Attorney's Office — Assistant District Attorney

Jay worked at the Middlesex District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney from 2008 to 2012 immediately prior to him opening his own law firm. He prosecuted cases in Middlesex Superior Court as well as in district courts throughout the county and Cambridge and Waltham Juvenile Courts. He successfully prosecuted cases with charges ranging from armed assault with intent to murder to motor vehicle homicide to employee thefts ranging from $30,000 to over $100,000 to operating under the influence (or drunk driving cases) to drug distribution and school zone cases to domestic violence matters.

Private Practice in Boston

Jay worked in private practice at a litigation boutique firm in Boston, MA immediately prior to working for the Middlesex District Attorney. There, Jay represented both companies and individuals regarding civil litigation, criminal defense, and employment matters.

Attorney General's Office, Northern Mariana Islands — Civil Division Chief

Jay worked for the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' Civil Division where he worked as an Assistant Attorney General and became the Civil Division Chief between 2002 and 2006. He represented the Commonwealth, its Governor, his cabinet members, and other government officials in civil litigation matters ranging from civil rights cases to employment matters to business disputes to election law matters to tax matters. He also represented the Commonwealth Election Commission through two general and two special elections. He supervised an office of more than twenty attorneys that represented the government with respect to all matters.

Large Law Firm Experience

Jay began his career at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, which had two U.S. offices and seven foreign offices at the time, in its Washington D.C. office. Jay represented foreign and domestic clients regarding business litigation and white collar criminal defense. He dealt extensively with complex litigation matters involving banking, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), and antitrust issues.

Jay has tried approximately forty cases to jury verdict.

Jay also serves as an adjunct professor at Northeastern Law School in Boston, where he teaches research and writing skills to first-year law students. He has taught at Northeastern since 2009.

Jay is licensed to practice in the state courts of Massachusetts and the Northern Mariana Islands, as well as the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Ninth Circuit.

Jay is a Board Member of the Beacon Hill Civic Association, Clerk of its Zoning and Licensing Committee, and Second Vice Chair and Elected Member of the Boston Ward 5 Democratic Committee.

Jay attended George Washington School of Law where he graduated with High Honors and in the Top 10% of his graduating class. He was a member of the Order of Coif. Prior to law school, Jay attended University of Connecticut where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and History with honors. He also graduated from North Attleboro High School in North Attleboro, MA.
