Sam concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation and licensing. He has handled numerous contested patent and trade secret matters involving a range of technologies, including pharmaceutical, medical device, software, and bio agriculture. Sam represents both plaintiffs and defendants, and for the past several years, has focused on defending generic drug companies in lawsuits filed under the Hatch-Waxman Act (commonly referred to as “ANDA litigation”). Sam also has represented clients in contested copyright and trademark matters in federal court and before administrative tribunals.
Sam further regularly counsels clients on intellectual property licensing matters, including research collaboration agreements, technology transfer agreements and patent and technology know-how license agreements.
Sam is active in the legal community and regularly works on pro bono matters. He particularly enjoys representing foster care children on behalf of the Children’s Law Center and indigent individuals through the Federal Defender’s Program.
In 2008 and 2009 Sam was named a “Rising Star” by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Sam was named a "Rising Star" in the new publication, Minnesota Super Lawyers magazine.
