S.J. graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, followed by her Juris Doctorate in law from the same University. She realized her dream of moving to the Last Frontier in 1985, and has practiced law in Alaska since 1987. She has been a sole practitioner and employed by several firms over the years. She initially practiced in the areas of employment law, worker's compensation, and criminal law. Family law has been her focus since 1994. S.J. balances her practice with exploration of Alaska and other places through outdoor adventures which include hiking, biking, running and kayaking.
