Elizabeth A. Leff is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP. Ms. Leff has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation and in counseling clients on intellectual property matters and on antitrust issues relating to intellectual property.
Ms. Leff's practice includes patent litigation in a wide range of technical fields including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, and e-commerce. Ms. Leff advises clients on the validity, enforceability, and infringement of patents and on the antitrust implications of patent litigation settlements and intellectual property licensing.
Ms. Leff has particular expertise in patent and antitrust issues relating to the Hatch-Waxman Act. Ms. Leff has handled a variety of pharmaceutical patent litigations brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act including those concerning buspirone, mirtazapine, nifedipine, ciprofloxacin, and nitroglycerine patches.
Prior to practicing in the private sector, Ms. Leff was an assistant attorney general for the State of Florida in the antitrust division. There, Ms. Leff conducted a variety of antitrust investigations and litigations.
Ms. Leff has lectured widely to professional groups on the use of patents in the pharmaceutical industry and on issues relating to Hatch-Waxman patent litigation. She is a member and has been a group leader of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, an Inn devoted to the practice of intellectual property law.
Ms. Leff received a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in microbiology, from the University of Massachusetts in 1979. Her undergraduate research was presented at the annual conference of the American Society of Biological Chemists. Ms. Leff received a Bachelors of Arts degree with honors in economics from Cambridge University in England in 1981 and a JD from Stanford University in 1987.
Ms. Leff was admitted to the State Bar of Washington in 1987, the Florida Bar in 1991, and the District of Columbia Bar in 2001. Ms. Leff is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and numerous Federal District Courts and Circuit Courts of Appeal. Ms. Leff is a member of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court. She is also a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Association.
