Richard S. Volpe has been practicing law in field of personal injury since November of 1980. After graduating from DePaul University College of Law, he accepted a position with the City of Chicago Corporation Counsels Office. There he handled the defense of personal injury cases filed against the City of Chicago in the Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. He tried juries to verdict in cases involving slip and falls on city sidewalks, police shootings, auto accidents involving police and fire department vehicles, paramedic negligence, and defective design cases.

Mr. Volpe then switched sides and began representing people who had been injured in accidents while working at the firm of Nevoral, Corrigan and O’Connor. There he continued to expand his jury trial experience handling cases involving product liability, medical malpractice, dram shop, and many other types of accidents. Mr. Volpe continued representing individuals who were injured due to the negligence of others until 1993.

Mr. Volpe then became associated with the firm of Aronson, Smith and Cross which represented insurance companies such as Fireman’s Fund and Interstate Insurance. It was here that Mr. Volpe and Mr. Grazian first practiced law together. While with Aronson, Smith and Cross, Mr. Volpe successfully defended million dollar claims against corporation and governmental bodies such as the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. Some of those cases were notable enough to garner front page coverage in the Chicago Law Bulletin. It was also here that Mr. Volpe first started appearing before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission on a regular basis. He handled the defense of employers in Workers’ Compensation matters in Chicago, Rockford, Waukegan, Joliet, Woodstock, Wheaton, and the entire State of Illinois.

Mr. Grazian and Mr. Volpe left that firm in 1998 to once again focus on representing individuals who had been injured in accidents. They have continued to practice law together since that time. The firm of Grazian and Volpe, P.C. concentrates its practice in helping the individual who has been injured whether at work or due to the negligence of some person or company. Together their years of jury trial experience have garnered millions of dollars for their clients.

Today, Mr. Volpe is considered very well known for his successes and expansive practice at the Industrial Commission as he currently handles caseloads of hundreds of Worker’s Compensation cases for Grazian & Volpe clients. Mr. Volpe has a reputation for quickly and fairly resolving Worker’s Compensation claims and is often referred such cases by physicians and attorneys in the Chicagoland area. He has served as a guest lecturer on the subject of Litigation Strategy and Technique at DePaul University College of Law.

Mr. Volpe is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association, The American Trial Lawyers Association, and The Illinois Bar Association. He has handled cases in Illinois trial courts as well as the Appellate Courts. In addition to the state courts, Mr. Volpe is a member of The Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has often served as Panel Chairmen for the Circuit Court of Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program which resolves personal injury claims. In addition, he is an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
