As a young man, Truman H. Vance entered the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in Turkey, he worked on surveillance satellites during the U.S.-Soviet Cokl War years. He would go on to cap a 25-year career in law enforcement with a 22-year career in law. He spent 13 years with the California Highway patrol, rising from traffic officer to heading Sacramento's acclaimed Multiple-fatality Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), He then became a CHP applicant background investigator. In 1977, he was recruited and personally selected by California's Secretary of State to lead that office's new criminal investigation division. Truman spent the next 12 years as a Senior Special Investigator for the State of California, working throughout the state to investigate real estate, immigration and election fraud. He was a member of the attorney Generals' White Collar Crime Task Force, a board director for the California Union of Safety Employees (CAUSE), a board director of the California Association of Criminal Investigators, and President of the California Association of Fraud Investigators. He became the Legislative Director for CAUSE and was regularly seen at the State Capitol lobbying for law enforcement interests throughout California.
At age 50, Truman retired with 25 years in law enforcement and graduated from McGeorge School of Law. Since 1989, he has practiced law in Solano County with his law partner and life partner - Catherine Vance.
When not working, Truman likes to see civilization in his rear-view mirror. An avid outdoorsman. Truman enjoys remote hiking, camping, fishing, waterfowl hunting and managing the 20 acres of forest land he purchased in Northern California. He particularly enjoys these activities with his wife and their son, a wild land freighter with the U.S. Forest Service.
