Mr. Tomlinson's unique law practice experience includes his initial service in the Chief Counsel's Office of the IRS; his services as in house counsel for several fortune 500 corporations for 18 years; and his private practice in Santa Barbara for 23 years since 1987.
After Mr. Tomlinson received his J.D. degree from Northwestern University in 1961, he began his law career as an attorney with the IRS Chief Counsel's Office. He became a senior trial attorney with the IRS and served for a period as acting IRS Assistant Regional Counsel.
Beginning in 1969, Mr. Tomlinson served the next 18 years as in house counsel for Teledyne, Memorex, AM International, General Automation, Ashland Oil and Lear Siegler. At these companines, Mr. Tomlinson worked on international business transactions, multinational income sourcing issues, multi-divisional mergers and acquisitions, tax-free reorganizations and complicated corporate tax audits, and business tax planning. From 1975 to 1987, Mr. Tomlinson was a member of the Tax Executives Institute.
Mr. Tomlinson's last corporate position was General Tax Counsel/Tax Director for Lear Siegler, Inc., and concurrently as an officer of 41 of its subsidiaries and divisions, in which he held a range of titles including Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and Vice President Taxes. Lear Siegler had operations in over 30 foreign countries.
Prior to his joining Rogers, Sheffield, and Campbell, as Of Counsel, Mr. Tomlinson was Of Counsel for Archbald & Spray in Santa Barbara.
