Hiram G. Tipton graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in 1965 and a law degree in 1967. He spent his first five years in a trial practice with a Knoxville firm. He then joined the legal department of Eastman Chemical Company and during the next 25 years gained experience in a broad range of areas with increasing responsibility. At the time of his retirement from Eastman at the beginning of 1998, he was Assistant General Counsel responsible for legal matters outside of the United States. He resided for a time in The Hague, The Netherlands. He was the first American attorney to serve on the attorneys committee of the American Chamber of Commerce, The Netherlands. Previous responsibilities included all legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. In addition to counseling clients on how to do business outside of the United States, his practice includes corporate and business related matters, employment law, environmental law, commercial litigation, products liability, workers compensation and administrative law. He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and Texas, in U.S. District Courts in Tennessee and Texas, and in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Federal Circuits. He served as the President of the Kingsport Bar Association in 1995, and is a member of the Knoxville, American and International Bar Associations. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law and serves on the Board of Visitors for the College of Arts and Sciences, UTK.
