John’s practice includes patent preparation and prosecution before the USPTO and the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. He has represented property holders, acquirers and licensors in the preparation and negotiation of acquisition, nondisclosure and joint development agreements; patent licenses; and technology transfers.
John's experience has spanned numerous industries, including medical device technologies (catheter-based products, electrocardiology systems, pulse-oximeters and optical sensors, ventilator controls, photodynamic treatments, wireless communication, high-frequency chest compression devices, medical information systems, fluid filtration devices, optical communication, fluid reclamation, air purification, fluid absorbent articles and pharmaceutical delivery devices), wireless telecommunication systems, software, RFID systems, telephony, aerospace, microelectronics, electronic commerce, business methods, motor vehicle equipment, transportation, optics and biometrics, microfluidics sensor technology, paper handling and forming machinery, outdoor power equipment and surface cleaning machines.
John is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota. He is one of only a handful of registered patent attorneys with degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota, his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. John joined Briggs in 2008.
