For more than 25 years, Buckley & Klein founding partner Daniel Klein has championed the workplace rights of employees. Dan has represented clients in a wide range of employment cases, including sexual harassment cases; overtime class actions; race, age, and sex discrimination cases; whistleblower claims; and non-competition and other contract disputes.
With extensive experience in executive severance and compensation issues, Dan has counseled and represented top executives from some of the world's largest corporations. Dan is listed as a "Super Lawyer" by Atlanta Magazine and is named in Martindale Hubbell's Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers.
A native of New York City, Dan received his B.A. with Honors from Brown University and his J.D. Cum Laude from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Labor and Employment Section of the Atlanta Bar Association.
Dan regularly speaks at seminars and bar meetings on employment law issues. In recent years, he has lectured on such topics as whistleblower law, sexual harassment, effective use of courtroom technology, and negotiation techniques.
Over the years, many of Dan's cases have garnered attention from the national media. A sexual harassment case of Dan's (on behalf of a television weather reporter) was highlighted in monologues by Jay Leno of the "Tonight Show"; David Letterman; and Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update." Dan has also appeared on behalf of his clients on "Good Morning America" and other nationally-broadcast news programs.
Dan's work is not limited to the adversarial role. Other employment law attorneys frequently ask him to serve as arbitrator or mediator in their cases; as a neutral, he has arbitrated or mediated more than 400 cases. An advocate of mediation and other dispute resolution processes, Dan has participated in the Avanced Mediation and Negotiation Workshops at Harvard Law School, and has taught mediation and negotiation both in the United States and in Europe. Dan has served as an arbitrator for the United States Olympic Committee, facing issues involving membership on the US Olympic teams. Dan is a member of the Commercial and Employment Arbitration Panels and the Employment Mediation Panel of the American Arbitration Association. Dan has also developed a mediation web site, www.kleinmediation.com, which allows users to value lawsuits using "decision tree" analysis. Fluent in French, Dan is a member of the Panel of Mediators of the Centre de Mediation et d'Arbitrage De Paris.
Dan is an amateur cellist of exceptionally modest ability. He had the fortune, though, to marry a real cellist: his wife, Dona Klein, is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Their daughters, Andrea and Melissa, have inherited their parents' love of music and their mother's talent. Both play piano and one other instrument (cello for Andrea, trumpet for Melissa). The Kleins are outdoor enthusiasts and vacations are often spent in the mountains of North Carolina or the Rockies.
