Attorney Tara K. Tauber is an Associate at Tauber Westland & Bennett P.C.
Tara was born in Hammond, Indiana and graduated in 1993 from Highland High School. In 1997, Tara graduated magna cum laude from Valparaiso University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She went on to teach at Washington Elementary in East Chicago and Homan Elementary in Schererville. After six years of teaching, Tara gave into her desire to practice law and attended Valparaiso University School of Law where she received her J.D. in 2006.
While attending law school, Tara served as a Teaching Assistant for Legal Writing classes. She also received the Charles E. Vaughn Award for excellence in Trial Practice I and II in 2006.
Upon finishing her J.D., Tara was admitted in 2006 to the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the Indiana bar. Tara is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, The Indiana School Board Association and the Counsel of School Attorneys.
Tara’s practice consists mostly of Family/Juvenile Law, Personal Injury, Litigation, School Law, Estate Planning, Probate and Real Estate. Her teaching background and general love of children drive her to remain focused on preserving the best interests of the children involved in her cases.
In addition to her practice, Tara serves as a Pro Bono Attorney for the Haven House in Hammond, as well as the adoption attorney for Catholic Charities.
Although she lived in Highland for almost 30 years, she now resides in Crown Point, Indiana with her husband, Doug, daughter, Kennedy and stepdaughter, Caroline. Traveling is one of her favorite pastimes, and while at home, she can frequently be found outside in her garden. Tara’s greatest enjoyment in life comes from spending time with her family and making her children smile.
