Hal joined Steven M. O'Brien, III PLLC in January of 2012. The majority of his practice is devoted to representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice and nursing home abuse and neglect cases.
Hal graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in Journalism ('99) and a B.S. in Agriculture ('00). In 2003, he graduated, Order of Barristers, from the University of Tennessee College of Law and was the recipient of the McClung Medal, which is awarded to the Outstanding Advocate of each graduating class. At the University of Tennessee, Hal served as Chair of the Moot Court Board, was a two-year member of the National Trial Team, and received the 2002 Robert E. Pryor of Award of Excellence in Advocacy. Hal practices both civil and criminal cases. He is licensed to practice in Kentucky, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He has argued successfully before the Kentucky Supreme Court. Since 2005, he has served as a member of the Lexington panel of the Criminal Justice Act, which is comprised of a group of attorneys in private practice who are selected by the United States District Court Judges to represent indigent defendants who are charged with federal crimes. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Fayette County Bar Association.
