Deborah M. Kellam was born February 9, 1957. She spent most of her formative years growing up in Worland, Wyoming, before moving back to Colorado Springs where she graduated from high school in 1975. She earned a B.S. in nursing from the University of Wyoming in 1979, and worked as an orthopaedic nurse at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, for a year before entering Creighton University School of Law where she graduated cum laude in 1983. She practiced law in Denver for one year and in San Antonio, Texas, for four years before moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1988.
Deb is currently licensed to practice law before all of the state and federal courts in Wyoming and Colorado. She has devoted most of her legal career to civil litigation, and has considerable experience in handling a wide variety of personal injury cases. She has focused primarily on the defense of medical professional liability cases, and has participated as second chair in numerous medical malpractice trials in Wyoming. She is a member of the Wyoming, Colorado and Texas State Bars, and has served on the Board of Continuing Legal Education for the Wyoming State Bar. Utilizing her nursing background and the resources of being married to a Board Certified radiologist, she has served on the Advisory Board to the University of Wyoming Dean of Health Sciences, and has given numerous medical liability presentations to hundreds of healthcare providers in Wyoming and elsewhere over her career as an attorney.
Deb is married to Michael Kellam, M.D., and they have three children together, the oldest of whom is now in the Navy and the younger two are in college. Deb worked full-time as a wife and mother from 1988 until 1995, when she returned to the practice of law on a part time basis. As her children have grown she has gradually devoted more and more of her time to the practice of law, and in early 2010 she joined the firm of Lathrop & Rutledge, P.C., as a full-time attorney, concentrating on medical professional liability defense and the defense of other personal injury actions.
Deb is actively involved in community activities, having served on the St. Mary’s School Board and the Wyoming Education Commission. She is a founding member of the Cheyenne Cottonwood Society and a member of P.E.O.
