Daniel J. Keating joined the firm as an Associate in 2012 after graduating from both the University of Kansas School of Law and Graduate School. At KU Law, Mr. Keating took a holistic approach to his studies and work experiences so as to better understand the interrelationship between the many legal issues that can arise in every case. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Keating earned a Masters degree with honors in Anthropology, where he was a National Scholar Honor Society member and his research was funded by the Odyssey Archaeological Research Program. His diverse academic and work experiences bring extensive research, writing, and advocacy skills to the firm.

As an Associate with the firm, Mr. Keating provides quality legal representation in many areas of the law. He has primarily represented clients in numerous facets of domestic litigation, including divorces, child custody and parenting time disputes, child support modifications, grandparent visitation, and paternity actions. Mr. Keating has also represented clients in business organization, disputes and transactions, estate planning, real estate contract and/or lease review and drafting, parties on both sides of landlord-tenant disputes, and criminal defense cases that include DUIs. Also, Mr. Keating is very interested in not only the water laws and policies of Kansas, but also water issues both nationally and internationally. This includes how individuals, businesses, and municipalities establish, change, conserve, transfer, purchase, lease and/or sell water rights.

In addition to his work at the firm, Mr. Keating provides case law analysis for the Construction Law Digest, a monthly professional publication by LexisNexis that keeps its subscribers up-to-date on the latest court decisions in the construction law field. He also serves as General Counsel for Experience Baseball, a non-profit corporation dedicated to fighting the many social challenges unique to baseball communities. Some examples of these social issues include historic racism, socio-economic disparities, educational gaps, and homelessness. Among other things, Experience Baseball utilizes interactive and immersive baseball community tours to bring educational awareness to these issues, and aims to improve local economies through donations of its proceeds to relevant community organizations.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Keating worked for Kansas Legal Services and their Medical-Legal Partnership, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the Kansas Water Office, and the United States District Court, District of Kansas. During his time with Kansas Legal Services, Mr. Keating helped handle a wide variety of legal issues, including but not limited to numerous divorces, child custody disputes, protective orders from abuse and stalking, landlord-tenant disagreements, and drafting wills. In addition, Mr. Keating spent two years as a Research Assistant for the Wheat Law Library where he conducted numerous research projects for professors and other KU Law staff on topics that included environmental law, oil and gas development and hydraulic fracturing, civil procedure, and employment law.

While at law school, Mr. Keating served on the Technology Committee and was an Articles Editor for the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. He also participated in the Moot Court Competition, and was a Features Writer for the Kansas Law Free Press. Mr. Keating received the CALI Future Award for Excellence in the Public Policy Clinic for his research and analysis of the proposed changes to Kansas water law. This project was ultimately submitted to the Kansas Legislature to help them make decisions regarding the pending legislation.

Mr. Keating is licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas and is authorized to appear in all State and Federal courts of Kansas. His hobbies include spending time with his family and friends, reading, history, cooking, being active in sports, and coaching youth athletics.
