Karen L. Karavatos was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1963 and moved to California with her family in 1970. Ms. Karavatos obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1984. Ms. Karavatos obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in May of 1987. Ms. Karavatos has been practicing law in the state of California since 1987, having passed the California State Bar Exam on her first attempt in July of 1987.
Ms. Karavatos has extensive experience representing plaintiffs in multiparty, complex litigation. She began practicing law at age 24 with a defense firm in Santa Ana, California. After a couple of years, Karavatos decided that she preferred the Plaintiffs' side of litigation and, in 1990, she began representing plaintiffs in complex litigation matters. Since 1990, Karavatos has successfully represented hundreds of plaintiffs in complex, multi-million dollar lawsuits in California.
Ms. Karavatos has received several honors and awards during her career. While a law student, Ms. Karavatos was one of the Founding Editors of the University of San Diego School of Law Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues in 1986, she received the University of San Diego School of Law Merit Certificate for Outstanding Achievement in 1987 and was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among American Law Students in 1987. Karavatos was also selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among Rising Young Americans in 1992, Two Thousand Notable American Women, Fifth Edition in 1992, the International Who's Who of Professional and Business Women in 1993, The World Who's Who of Women, Twelfth and Thirteenth Editions and Who's Who in American Law in 1995. Ms. Karavatos' Success Profile was featured in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on February 23, 1996.
Karavatos has authored numerous published articles.
