Jonathan (Jake) D. Kaney III engages in a general civil practice, emphasizing plaintiffs injury and employment cases, probate and trust litigation, business and corporate litigation and business and contract advice. Jake also has 15 years experience as a newspaper lawyer, with emphasis on public records and sunshine law matters, defamation and privacy issues.

Education

Jake graduated from Seabreeze Senior High School in 1987. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stetson University in 1991 and a Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law, with honors, in 1994. In law school, Jake served as president of the Environmental Law Society.

Admissions

Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1994, Jake also is a member of the American Bar Association and the Volusia County Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in all courts of the State of Florida, the Middle and Southern Federal district courts in Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Memberships

Attorney Jake Kaney is a past chair of the Florida Bar's annual Media Law Conference and past chair of the Florida Bar's Media and Communications Law Committee. He is also past president of the Volusia County Young Lawyers Association (now merged with the Volusia County Bar Association). He is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Daytona. Jake holds the AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
