Although many of Mr. Stein’s clients reside in Chicago, the bulk of his clients come from Northbrook, Northfield, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Glenview, Skokie, Evanston, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Deerfield, Lincolnshire, Bannockburn and Riverwoods.

Serving primarily the North Shore, Edward I. Stein has been in private practice in Lake and Cook Counties for over thirty years.  In order to serve the best interests of the client, consideration is given to the constructive settlement approach as well as the litigation process.  Communication between attorney and client is afforded the highest priority so that the client is fully informed and can knowledgeably participate in the decision-making process.  Mr. Stein's practice is limited to family law, including dissolution of marriage, legal separation, declaration of invalidity of marriage, custody and visitation disputes, tax and financial aspects of family law, premarital and postmarital agreements, contested trials and appeals, post dissolution litigation, predivorce planning, divorce mediation, paternity suits, adoption and domestic violence orders of protection.  He has extensive experience in valuation and division issues regarding closely held companies, including partnerships, sole proprietorships and privately held corporations.

For approximately 15 years, Mr. Stein authored the "Marital Settlement Agreements" chapter in the Family Law Handbook used by most Illinois lawyers.  He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 1977.  In 1978, he received an award for his significant contribution to the education of the bar from the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.  He has published numerous articles in the field of family law and has been featured in the National Law Journal, Money Magazine, Chicago Magazine, Crain's Chicago Business, The New York Times, and many other publications.  He founded the "Lawyers' Forum" column of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, where he headed a panel of 26 widely known lawyers.  He has lectured extensively before the bar and the public and has been a featured guest speaker on many television and radio programs in the area of family law.  Recognized as one of the nation's best divorce lawyers, he is listed in the national directories of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals and Who's Who in American Law.
