Tim Junkin has over thirty years experience as a first chair trial attorney and appellate lawyer. He concentrates his practice on complex civil litigation matters, primarily in the areas of serious personal injury, malpractice, and business litigation. He has also served as a court-appointed trustee handling complex estates and real estate dispositions.
On behalf of plaintiffs, Mr. Junkin has successfully represented numerous adults and children who have been seriously injured by motor vehicles, hospitals, doctors, manufacturers of dangerous products, and in cases involving fires, explosions, and dangerous premises. He has obtained numerous verdicts and settlements in excess of a million dollars and was inducted into the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
In the business litigation arena, Mr. Junkin has served as lead counsel on numerous complex commercial cases, including real estate and construction disputes, defamation and employment matters, professional malpractice, commercial brokerage and tenant disputes, breach of contract cases, misappropriation, and business tort cases. He has also handled a variety of product liability, environmental and insurance law issues.
Mr. Junkin earned his B.A. in 1973 from the University of Maryland and his J.D. in 1977 from Georgetown University Law Center where he graduated as a Law Fellow. A former DC public defender, Mr. Junkin is past president of the D.C. Public Defender Alumni Association, and a past member of the Board of Governors of the D.C. Trial Lawyers Association. He has served as an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and taught as an adjunct professor at American University and Georgetown University Law Center. He has also authored three books: The Waterman, Good Counsel, and Bloodsworth.
Mr. Junkin recently founded a non-profit organization focused on the restoration and protection of Maryland's eastern shore rivers, the Choptank River Eastern Bay Conservancy, and serves part-time as its executive director.
Mr. Junkin is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland and before numerous federal courts.

CIVIL LITIGATION
1. Negligent treatment of bladder leads to $1.28 million verdict, affirmed on appeal.
A common bladder growth known as a nuisance cancer (it rarely spreads and often recurs) was removed by a D.C. surgeon, the doctor missed symptoms suggesting that he had perforated the bladder wall, then introduced an inflammatory agent into the bladder. The agent leaked through the perforation into the stomach of the patient and caused damage. The doctor denied he had breached the standard of care. Attorney Tim Junkin successfully litigated and tried the case before a jury and successfully handled the appeal, preserving the monetary award to the client.
2. Wrongful death of passenger in motor vehicle accident leads to settlement for policy limits.
In a tragic Bethesda automobile accident case, causing the death of the front seat passenger, a young high school student, Attorney Tim Junkin obtained a settlement on behalf of the deceased’s family for the maximum policy limits, in spite of the insurance company’s refusal to concede liability.
3. Hospital negligence in treating pregnancy disorder leads to a multi-million dollar verdict.
A pregnant woman was seen pre-natally with unusual swelling and weight gain, and eventually went into early labor, delivering a premature young boy with mild cereberal palsy. At trial, Attorney Tim Junkin proved that hospital workers failed to timely diagnose the mother’s condition, and failed to take steps to enhance the length of the pregnancy and improve the development of the child’s lungs, thus preventing the brain damage.
4. Successful negotiated settlement on behalf of one of the area’s largest private hotel developers concerning a business dispute involving dozens of properties.
Immersed in a complex business dispute involving several parties and where ownership of dozens of properties was at risk, a local hotel developer engaged Attorney Tim Junkin, who working in conjunction with two large D.C. firms and was instrumental in formulating and negotiating a successful settlement on behalf of the client.
5. Woman hit by fire truck settles with county for over $400,000.
A Fairfax, Virginia woman’s car was crushed by a fire truck on route to a call for aid, causing serious injury to her leg. She was told by the county that it had immunity and offered no compensation. Tim Junkin challenged this decision all the way to the State of Virginia’s highest court, won, then negotiated a favorable settlement with the county for his client.
6. Summary judgment granted in favor of corporation sued for complex disposition of assets under the Uniform Commercial Code.
A local corporation faced with a multi-million dollar lawsuit over its disposition of assets under a rarely used Uniform Commercial Code provision, hired Attorney Tim Junkin to lead its defense. After months of litigation, Mr. Junkin obtained a total courtroom victory with a summary judgment ruling vindicating the acts of the company.
