Amy M. Spilman has been practicing in the field of family law since 1994, and has successfully handled hundreds of contested divorces, custody cases, paternity issues, child support disputes, and parenting time matters with diligence and a commitment to excellence. Amy has also handled numerous family-law related appeals.
Amy Spilman graduated from the University of Michigan with High Distinction in 1991 (B.A. Political Science). In 1994 she obtained her Juris Doctor from the prestigious University of Michigan Law School.
In addition to her expertise in all aspects of family law, Amy's legal practice also includes probate and estate administration, contested probate litigation, paternity, guardianship and conservatorship matters.
Amy is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Inter-Professional Association on Marriage, Divorce and the Family, and is a Fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation. The Michigan Court of Appeals has recognized Amy for her participation as a volunteer facilitator for the Michigan Court of Appeals Domestic Relations Settlement Program. She has also been honored by First Step for her participation in their legal clinic for victims of domestic violence.
Amy also volunteers her time and services in the pro bono legal assistance program through JFS for low-income clients dealing with family law issues. She has been appointed a guardian ad litem by the Oakland County Probate Court to assist with the court’s assessment of guardianship and conservatorship petitions. She was a contributor to the Counsel for the Counselor Practice Tips Handbook for The Young Lawyer’s Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
