Kayla M. Johnson grew up outside of Slayton, Minnesota, and graduated from Murray County Central High School in 2002. She then continued her education at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was a member of the women's basketball and cross country teams. Kayla double-majored in legal studies and political science while at Hamline University and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree. She then attended Hamline University School of Law and graduated magna cum laude in 2008. During law school, Kayla served as an associate for the Hamline Law Review.
Kayla began working at Lynn A. Johnson Law Office, LLC as an intern during her last year of undergrad and continued working as a law clerk during all three years of law school. After being admitted to the Minnesota bar, Kayla returned to the firm and began working as a full time attorney. Kayla now divides her time between her position as an associate attorney at Lynn A. Johnson law Office, LLC and a half-time public defender position. Kayla enjoys working with the variety of individuals one encounters in a rural community such as Slayton. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and of the team that is working to establish a drug court in Nobles, Rock, Pipestone, Murray, and Cottonwood counties. Kayla also serves as a board member on the Slayton Area Chamber of Commerce. She resides in Avoca, Minnesota, with her husband.
