David E. Joanis graduated from the University of Wisconsin– LaCrosse in 1969. From 1969 to 1972, he was an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1975 and was admitted to the Wisconsin bar in that year. Mr. Joanis practiced in La Crosse, Wisconsin from 1975 to 1991, focusing primarily on family law.
Since moving to Madison, Wisconsin, his practice has been exclusively in the area of family law. While Mr. Joanis frequently acts as a guardian ad litem in contested cases involving children and is frequently selected to mediate cases, he also enjoys an active divorce trial practice.
Mr. Joanis is the co-author with Linda S. Balisle of "Compensation on Dissolution of Marriage for Spousal Contributions to Education," 31 Am. Jur. Trials 1, and a co-author with Kenneth Waldron, Ph.D, of "Understanding and Collaboratively Treating Parental Alienation Syndrome," American Journal of Family Law, Volume X, No. 3, Fall 1996. Mr. Joanis is licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.
