Unique Background
With his distinctive background, Mark O. Jarvis provides his clients with a unique perspective on the legal issues they face. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Jarvis was a university professor, focusing on marriage and divorce research, social and cultural factors influencing individuals and families, criminal behavior in the context of the family, etc. Mr. Jarvis decided to go to law school where he could make more of a real-world difference in people’s lives.
Legal Education
Mr. Jarvis graduated from the University of Utah’s S. J. Quinney College of Law. While in law school, he pursued his interests in criminal and family law in his work at the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, in the Domestics Division of the Utah Legal Aid Society, in the Third District Juvenile Court, and as an intern at the Legal Defenders Association. In addition, he served as a Note and Comment Editor for the law school’s Journal of Law and Family Studies, worked on family and criminal law cases for local law firms, and served as the Student Director of the Pro Bono Initiative’s Family Law Clinic.
Awards and Honors
Mr. Jarvis has received the David T. Lewis Award for his clinical work, one of several Best Brief awards in the Traynor Moot Court Competition, the CALI Award in Criminal Process, the Utah State Bar Family Law Section & S. J. Quinney College of Law Scholarship, and the Utah State Bar’s Pro Bono Student of the Year Award.
