Scott Smith was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He is a graduate of Copley High School and attended Kent State University where he pursued a degree in Criminal Justice. At Kent State, Scott was a member of the National Dean's List, Golden Key National Honor Society, Order of Omega, and was on Kent State's Homecoming Court. It was always Scott's goal to become a lawyer.
Since 2003, Scott Smith has been a partner at Shifrin Newman Smith, Inc. He first came to our law firm in 1997 as a law clerk working his way through law school. A year later, Scott graduated from the University of Akron law school. While in law school, Scott earned the CALI award for Civil Procedure by having the highest grade in his class. Thereafter, he became an associate attorney at Sternberg, Newman, and Shifrin. Scott has been admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Ohio, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Recently, Scott was granted a fellowship by the Akron Bar Association foundation. Scott belongs to the Akron Trial Lawyers Association and the National Association of Social Security Claimant Representatives (NOSSCR). He is a member of the Investigative Subcommittee and serves on the Fee Dispute Panel for the Akron Bar Association. He has been named to the Advisory Board of Rockynol Retirement Center and is a barrister for Scanlon Inn of Court.
Scott enjoys speaking to groups which have included lawyers, doctors, and social workers about Social Security Disability. He is also active with Westminster Presbyterian Church where he has served as a Deacon and is Moderator of the Properties Committee.
Scott is married to Stephanie and they have two children. Scott enjoys golfing, reading novels, traveling and watching college football.
