Julie Smith served as a Marion County Deputy Prosecutor for four years. During her tenure at the Prosecutor’s Office, she represented the State in over one hundred trials and contested evidentiary hearings. She has worked closely with several different law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police, the Marion County Crime Lab, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, serving as a liaison between a Narcotics District and the Prosecutor’s Office. Ms. Smith has comprehensive experience in litigating the merits of search warrants, determining the strengths and weaknesses of cases involving narcotics and the operation of a vehicle while intoxicated, the use of expert witnesses, the juvenile delinquency system, and the negotiation of plea agreements.
Prior to joining the Prosecutor’s Office, Ms. Smith was a clerk for the Honorable Robert Gilmore, LaPorte County Circuit Court, where she researched and drafted trial court decisions.
As a defense attorney, Ms. Smith has successfully obtained the dismissal of prosecutions against defendants who have been charged with misdemeanors and felonies including allegations of alcohol related offenses, criminal trespass, battery, domestic violence, and conversion or theft.
