As counsel to The Reed Law Firm, John Patrick Smith brings over 30 years of federal criminal litigation experience. Mr. Smith represents individuals and companies in investigations involving fraud, money laundering, healthcare, and other federal offenses.
Mr. Smith is well known in his field as an experienced trial lawyer and legal advisor. Before entering private practice, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Texas where he led the district's attorneys in various roles, including as Chief of the Criminal Division, Chief of the Fraud Section, Chief of South Texas Operations (including the offices in Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Laredo, and McAllen), Chief of Special Prosecutions, Chief of the Brownsville Division, and Senior Litigation Counsel. During his tenure, he led investigations and prosecutions involving bank fraud, organized crime, public corruption, drug trafficking, and various other federal economic crimes.
Prior to becoming a federal prosecutor, Mr. Smith was an assistant district attorney in the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office and a public defender in the Oklahoma County Public Defender's Office. He received his BS degree from Oklahoma City University and his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
