James ("Jim") Smith received his law degree from the University of Utah, having worked as a clerk in the Utah Attorney General's Office (Commercial Enforcement Division) and with a small firm out of California. He came to Greg Smith and Associates after running his own practice in Provo where he built a reputation for excellence in client service, tenacious advocacy, and painstaking research.
Jim prides himself on taking the time to educate his clients about the law and its applications to whatever situations they may find themselves in, and helping them to find a practical balance between their current legal challenges and the other demands on their lives. His wide range of experience has also given him special insight into how a criminal case may affect a bankruptcy, divorce, domestic protective order, or Division of Child and Family Services case.
Among his other achievements, Jim has written a published analysis of Iraqi strategy in the 1991 Iraq War, done research with noted Lebanese scholar and human rights advocate Chibli Mallat, and won an award for academic excellence in the field of arbitration. Jim has lectured high-school classes on legal issues, and has conducted a number of public information seminars around Utah Valley.
Jim lives in Lehi, Utah with his wife and four children. In his spare time he enjoys learning about local history, adding to his collection of Titanic books and memorabilia, and teaching an adult Sunday School class in his church congregation.
