John Iole is a trial lawyer practicing policyholder-side insurance recovery and commercial litigation. Engagements include first- and third-party coverage for natural disasters, directors and officers (D&O) claims, employment practices liability (EPL) coverage, advertising injury, errors and omissions (E&O), and business interruption.
John's engagements include representing Motorola in Bermuda and London international arbitrations involving D&O coverage for a $190 million securities class action settlement; representing Federated Department Stores/Macy's, Inc. in claims for department store property damage and business interruption as a result of Hurricanes Ike, Katrina, and Wilma; representing American Management Systems in a $475 million bad faith failure to settle a claim under an E&O policy; representing Safelite Glass Corp. in a Lanham Act, commercial bribery, and unfair competition case involving an insurance third-party administrator network (see 441 F. Supp.2d 695 (M.D. Pa.)); and representing a major consumer products manufacturer in a claim for EPL coverage associated with class action discrimination claims.
John is an elected member of The American Law Institute and is an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, teaching advanced trial evidence. John implemented and coordinates the Pro Se ADR Referral Program for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
John was a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from 1997 to 2003, serving as its chairman. He also was a member of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Ad Hoc Committee on Evidence, which drafted Pennsylvania's first rules of evidence.
