Attorney Brodie Smith is a partner at Lanza & Smith; he has been practicing in the areas of real estate and business litigation for over ten years. Mr. Smith has considerable courtroom experience, particularly in breach of contract, unfair business practices, business torts, and civil litigation. Over the course of his career he has served as lead attorney on many trials.

In 2009, Brodie Smith and Anthony Lanza successfully defended a $6.5 million RICO lawsuit for three defendants, pursuant to a jury verdict in federal court. In 2006 and 2007, Mr. Smith was part of a small team of attorneys who represented one of the largest home builders in the United States in a breach of contract case with claimed damages in the hundreds of millions of dollars. He has also successfully represented several escrow companies, mortgage brokers and commercial real estate brokers at trial.

During the past several years, Brodie Smith has handled multiple sophisticated litigation matters in state, federal, and appellate courts. These have generally included lawsuits involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, directors & officers liability, malicious prosecution, wrongful termination, and of course extensive contract disputes. He also has significant real estate litigation experience, including landlord-tenant disputes, mechanics' liens, breach of real estate contracts, nuisance, trespass, premises liability, and related commercial lease topics.

Complimenting his litigation background, Mr. Smith also advises clients and guides the formation of various business entities, including corporations and limited liability companies. He has negotiated and drafted buy-sell agreements, non-competition agreements, asset sales, stock sales, commercial leases, licensing agreements, and other business transactions.

Mr. Smith graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999 and received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Marymount University School of Law in 2002. While at Loyola, Mr. Smith served as Articles Editor on the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review and received the American Jurisprudence Award in Employment Law. He is admitted to practice before all California state courts and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
