Dan was born in Richmond California in 1943, after World War II. His family moved back to southern Minnesota where he grew up. Following high school, he graduated from Colorado State College, and then attended Willamette University College of Law. He was admitted to the California and Oregon State Bars in 1970. He began the practice of law in Grants Pass in 1970.

Dan has assisted thousands of clients in his 42 years of practice in southern Oregon. He also enjoys working in the non-profit community and has served on the following boards: Boys & Girls Club, Wildlife Images, Southern Oregon Head Start, Four Way Foundation, Josephine County Juvenile Advisory Committee, and Grants Pass Rotary Club.
